Bang Boom! - Creative Writing

Curtain

A man in his late 60's gets off a big blue couch upstage center and crosses downstage right and picks up a book. The book is over sized and bright blue. On the front cover, in bold, red letters it says "BAM! BOOM" on the front. There is no author. The bookcase downstage right has many books and on top of the bookcase is a plant. The room is plain, boring and depressing. On the back wall is a sign that says "Quite Please".

The man slowly shuffles his feet back upstage center and sits on the couch. He sinks into it and gets comfortable. He slowly fixes his glasses and looks at the back of the book. He reads it, lifts the book up in front of his face and takes a hard look at it before opening it.

He opens the book, slowly. As the man opens the book a loud noise comes from within "BOOM! BANG!" The man jumps up from the couch, shocked and breathing heavily. His glasses have fallen on the floor and the book has been tossed upstage right.

Shocked, the man grabs his chest and looks around. He slowly picks up his glasses and is shaking. He puts his glasses back on and lifts himself up for the couch and grabs the book. He sits back down. He clams himself and looks around to see if anyone has heard him. Slowly and more aware he only opens the book a bit.

The book makes a screeching noise and the man quickly closes it. He waits, peers around the room to see once again if anyone has heard. Curious the man re-opens the book. A clown is heard and children laugh. Loud honking noises and dogs barking is heard. The mans eyes are filled with excitement as confetti is shot out at him through the pages.

An angry woman stomps in. She is dressed very well and also wears glasses. She has her hair tied in a bun and rushed towards the man and snatches the book. She is angry. She points to the sign on the wall and the man tires to explain the strange book. "SHH" she says and stomps off stage. The man is left there, alone. His hair is messy and there is confetti all over the place.
